Seven Seas Press has received a generous grant from the Berkshire Hathaway Charitable Foundation to present a Bilingual Book Reading and Giveaway of 300 copies of these award-winning books to children at Earth Day weekend in Santa Barbara - April 29th and 30th in Alameda Park.
“The Crazy Old Maid ~ And How She Became Known as FLORA, the Quite Sane, Age-Defying, Domestic Goddess,” is written by local author Colleen McCarthy-Evans, illustrated by Janneke Ipenburg and translated into Spanish by local literacy advocate Marcos Martinez.
From p.1 of “La Vieja Criada Loca/The Crazy Old Maid”
Author Colleen McCarthy-Evans and Santa Barbara Unified School Board Member Rose Muñoz will read the book on the Kids’ Corner Stage at the Earth Day Event, in both Spanish and English, at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday April 29th and 30th, followed by the Giveaway.
Synopsis: In a charming make-believe village, the townsfolk know how to enjoy the simple pleasures of life, and they still have a few things to learn. Themes of respect for each other and our planet come into play in this fun, quirky story, that includes a cut-out card game at the back of the book.
Santa Barbara Unified School Board Member, Rose Muñoz, says, "I am honored to have been asked to participate in Earth Day. In sharing this bilingual story, we will share our love of reading with you."
And, for an extra added bonus, local author Janet Lucy will also be at the event with her award-winning children’s book “Makana es un Regalo/Makana is a Gift.” “Makana” is the heartwarming tale of a young sea turtle and his all-too-common life-threatening encounter with a plastic bag. Seven Seas Press will also be offering 100 copies of “Makana es un Regalo” at the Earth Day Giveaway.
Author Colleen McCarthy-Evans says, “We are so excited to be able to gift these sweet and relevant books with their eco-friendly themes to children at Earth Day. We’re grateful to Berkshire Hathaway and other angel donors for making this possible.”
